Hi! we are Sohail and Kristy. We started this blog 12 years ago (not really, it was only alive in our head) or we SHOULD have started this Blog 12 years ago. What matters is that we are doing it now. Nothing is more annoying than hearing people ramble and not get to the point. You are here now, so here’s a cliff notes version of our story to help you decide if you should add this blog to your trusted places to get inspirations and topics and tricks, so settle in :).
The photo of us below was taken at our current home where we live with our five children. These days we juggle between our jobs, managing and scaling our real estate investments to fuel our desire for freedom and control over our time, home schooling five most amazing kids, keeping busy with our love for DIY projects and tending to our incessant desire to travel.
Our goal is to be the wealthiest people on the planet by having the most unimaginable amount of memories and laughter with our kids and family and live life to the fullest.
Its a lot to constant balancing and at time when things are not so ideal (to put it nicely) we try to remind ourselves of all the things that we have done so far. I guess this blog is also (selfishly) a journal for us . I feel we need reminders more than we need educating so this bog will serve as our living reminder to look back at all the amazing memories that we have created and adventures and keep on treading when things are not so ideal.
At times when we read other peoples stories it seems that they have all the great things in life and we are the only ones gifted with the lemons. We end up comparing people stage performance to our back stage which is not comforting when you are blazing your own path in life (or at-least trying to ). We hope to keep this blog as unfiltered as possible and share with the world our stories and adventures, and most importantly failures/lessons and accomplishments through life.
We met in the Rocket City of Alabama when we were 22. Over the last decade or so we have worked on 8 homes, several creative projects. While living at our cozy little 2 bedroom in Madison we fixed up another 3 bedroom, and two beach condos ( Pensacola) in. We moved to Atlanta in 2011 started our careers (as CPA and Risk Consultant), got another town home and that where things really took off for us (we had our first child :)) Since then we have done 6 other properties all very different and creative (I’ll talk more about that in the upcoming posts).
We’ve done Airbnbs, RV ,and Mobile home parks traditional rentals, land development and lots more. Lots of fun stuff (mostly not at first, when you are learning as you are doing it ) renovating and decorating them all. Lots of cleaning & maintaining them all, mowing & weeding all those yards, traveling back & forth any time there was something we needed to fix or check, and paying for utilities, insurance, and taxes on all of them. You see where this is going, right?! It didn’t all happen at once. It was a slow creep to doing and having SO MUCH. There days where we start to question what it means to live well. Writing has been a great escape for me to get my thoughts down on paper. We continue to explore and evolve and hope that our reader will find meaningful life content on our blog that inspires and helps them through their journey in life.
Getting back to the blog!! I guess we were so busy raising our five little munchkins and getting things done and life that we could never see ourselves taking time out to be able to blog about all the things we do. In hind sight we probably could have somehow managed but I guess thats the point of life ( I think! :)), as you grow you tend to slowly realize your true potential and when you look back at all the things that you have dome and all the craziness and accomplishments you start to get a sense of possibilities. We have far more to mange now than we did 12 years ago and yet here we are doing what we thought was impossible when our load was far less 🙂
In essence our love for DIY projects, thinking out of the box and carving our own path and passion forced us to start documenting everything. We don’t want to forget all the things that we did that we never thought were possible and we want to be able to share that with the world and serve as inspiration (hopefully) to other that everyone is capable of doing many amazing things and life is a journey and not a destination.
